ClearlyBraced is a quiet plain spoken guide to wearing braces and clear aligners. No before and after sales pitches, no upsells, no unboxing theatre. Just the answers most people only find after months of trial and error. This page is where to begin if you are new to the site or new to treatment.

Who this site is for

ClearlyBraced is written for adults and teens actually wearing braces or clear aligners, and for parents researching treatment for a child. We assume you already know that straight teeth are nice. What you probably want to know is which foods still work on a Tuesday, whether soreness in week two is normal, how to clean an aligner without ruining it, when a wire pinging out is an emergency, and how to keep gums calm for years without buying every gadget on the internet.

We are not your dentist. Nothing on this site replaces personal advice from a qualified dentist or orthodontist. What we do offer is the practical detail that a fifteen minute appointment rarely covers. Every guide is written from inside real treatment and reviewed against reliable dental sources before it goes live.

Three simple steps to get moving

  1. 01

    Find your stage

The site is organised by where you actually are right now, not by textbook chapter order. Whether you got your first Invisalign tray yesterday or you are two years into fixed braces and eyeing the retainer stage, jump straight to the guide that matches your month. Skip the generic introductions.

  2. 02

Build a routine that survives bad days

Brushing, flossing, soaking and snacking should fit a real schedule, not a clinic poster on the wall. The daily habits that actually protect treatment are the ones you can repeat at 11pm when you are tired. Small, boring and consistent beats perfect and short lived.

  3. 03

    Get the right kit, quietly

A short opinionated list of products that earn space in a bathroom drawer. No twenty item roundups. No affiliate piles. Just the things we still use after the novelty has worn off, with honest notes on what to skip.

If you have not started treatment yet

The single most useful thing you can do before a consultation is know which questions to ask. Cost, treatment length, refinements, retainer plan and what happens if you skip an appointment all vary widely between clinics. Two dentists using the same brand can quote very different prices and produce very different results. Our Invisalign vs braces comparison walks through the honest trade offs, and the Invisalign cost guide and braces cost guide give real worldwide ranges so you can spot outlier quotes.

If you are in the first week

The first week is loud. Sore teeth, tender cheeks, a lisp with aligners, food that suddenly feels risky and a general sense of not knowing whether what you feel is normal. Most of it is. Start with Invisalign week 1: what nobody tells you if you are on trays, or do braces hurt if you have brackets. Then plan a soft food week using foods to avoid with braces.

If you are already a few months in

The middle of treatment is where routine matters more than motivation. Flossing gets skipped. Aligner cleaning slides. A bracket comes loose and nobody warned you what to do at midnight. Bookmark our flossing with braces guide, the aligner cleaning routine and the broken bracket walkthrough. Save them somewhere you can find at 11pm.

If you are near the end

Retainers are treatment. Skipping them for a year is how straight teeth quietly shift back. Read permanent vs removable retainers before your appointment, then how to clean retainers to build a routine that lasts.

How to use this site well

Long guides answer the big questions. Category hubs collect shorter articles by topic. The blog index lists everything in one place. If you want a slower rhythm, the email opt in below sends one calm note a week with the article most people find useful for that stage of treatment. No spam, no clinic pitches, unsubscribe any time.

If a guide feels short on your specific situation, that is often because the honest answer is see your dentist or orthodontist. We would rather send you to a professional for personal advice than fill a page with generic reassurance. Treatment is individual. Timelines vary. Costs vary. Comfort varies. What does not vary is that consistent daily care and a clinician you trust produce the best long term result.
